Because the beaver isn't just an animal; it's an ecosystem!

October 2013

October 6th – 5:15pm – 7:00pm – As the evenings get darker sooner, it is hard to know when the beavers will be out as it seems they change their schedule. We saw one kit come out around 6pm and swim around before taking some willow back to the bank hole. Another kit came out a while later and checked things out before swimming up to the primary dam. Looks like a lot of work has been done on the primary so hopefully they will start working on the secondary. Both dams had some damage due to the heavy rain last week. The most exciting thing of the evening was a sighting of a muskrat. We haven’t seen any muskrats for over a year. Also sighted was a very large rat, that one of the local cats was stalking. The rat was high up on the berry bushes eating berries. HP, JR, JO, LB
