Because the beaver isn't just an animal; it's an ecosystem!

September 2013

September 15th – 6:00pm – Beavers were again out by 6:00pm. Another busy night of beaver activity. Mom, Jr., three kits and a beaver, that we think was born in 2010, were all seen near the secondary dam. A woman from New York was down viewing the beavers and was very excited to see them. Her brother has beavers on his property and she remembers walking on the iced pond and seeing the beavers swimming under the ice.HP, JR

September 14th – 6:00pm-7:30pm – The beavers seem to be coming out earlier recently but the viewing time is getting shorter as it was dark around 7:30pm. Two kits were seen around the secondary dam, which was covered over by the high tide. They found some willow and one kit decided to sit on the bank and eat away. Also seen were three adult beavers. One for sure was mom and we also think dad was out later. The other large beaver didn’t seem like Jr. so wonder if it was a kit from 3 years ago. The adult beavers stayed around for quite some time. Once in awhile they would take some willow off to the bank holes. Several people joined us and were pleased to see all the activity.CR, LB

September 11th – 6:15pm – A very massive high tide swallowed the secondary dam. Lots of people came out on the footbridge to get a sighting of the beavers. Three kits were out as was Jr. Due to the high tide, the beavers could swim through the dam. Everyone went away happy but cold as the evening turned into a cold one. Beaver sighting time is getting shorter as it is getting darker earlier.HP, JR

September 1st – 6:00pm-8:00pm – Another great night for watching beavers. The tide was lower and we could really see the secondary dam and how well it has been taken care of. There were so many beavers out that no one went away without seeing some. The kits were out first as usual and Jr. and Mom were both out and the three kits were together on the dam at one time, which made a great picture. Hard to get the three together. Soon an adult beaver that we hadn’t seen for awhile appeared . Think this is our mysterious 7th beaver. Probably a kit from 2010 that hasn’t moved on. Many people enjoyed the evening and if you haven’t seen the beavers before now is the time.HP, JR, CR, JO, LB
