Because the beaver isn't just an animal; it's an ecosystem!

June 2014

June 23rd – 5:00am – The new kit was seen swimming around by the primary dam. Also two yearlings were seen working at the primary dam and they were ripping up a green branch that some beaver had brought and they were stuffing it into the dam. Busy beavers. JR

June 22nd – 7:00pm – 8:30pm – Several members of Worth A Dam and festival volunteers were able to see at least 5 of the beavers out near the dam sites. Down at the secondary dam, the was a beaver busy working on the dam and checking things out. Another one came from above stream and was seen going in and out of the bank holes. At least three beavers were seen up at the primary dam busy eating and carrying willow branches back to their homes. Everyone was so excited to see them out and a visitor from the Napa beavers, couldn’t believe how close we could get to them and also how they didn’t mind the loud music from Creek Monkey, the trains and us talking. It seems the Napa beavers will slap their tails and disappear if there is noise or people around. It was a very good beaver night but no sighting of the kit. CR, JO, LB

June 21st – 8:00pm – The kit was finally seen by members of Worth A Dam at 8:00pm. It was swimming around in the primary dam area and playing in the incoming tide waters. HP, JR

June 14th – 5:00am – There seemed to be lots of beavers down by the primary dam. Finally, the kit was seen swimming around down by the annex. It headed back under the bridge and was met by another beaver. They both swam down towards the primary dam. Seems like the primary is where all the activity has been lately. JR

June 13th – 7:00pm – Oh, what a beautiful night for beaver watching down by the primary dam. Everyone was hoping to get a sighting of the new kit, which never happened, but there was lots of other beaver activity. Three beavers were seen crossing over the primary dam and heading on down towards the secondary. One beaver was seen down at that dam doing some mudding. While up at the primary, two beavers came out and swam right next to the bank we were standing on. They seemed to be checking things out. Lots of yelling, “there’s a beaver” coming from the Creek Monkey. At least 5 beavers were seen during the evening but still no kit. HP, JR, CR, LB
