March 2014

March 30th – 7:00pm – Three beavers had been seen, before we got down to the secondary dam, by another beaver watcher. A beaver was then seen coming down from high up on the bank. It entered the water by the bank hole. Another beaver came swimming down from upstream and crossed over the secondary dam and continued on downstream. We followed it until it came to the third dam. This dam looks great and we watched two beavers working on this dam. They also had some time to wrestle with each other. A runner stopped by to ask what we were looking at and was quite surprised to find out that we had beavers in the creek. He lived in Martinez but hadn’t heard about them. He stay and enjoyed watching them with us for awhile. It was real nice to be down again at the dam sites and to see the beavers out in the evening. Day light savings time is great for beaver watching. CR, LB, MS

March 25th – 4:45am – One large beaver was seen coming out of the bank hole near the bridge. It crossed over the secondary dam and swam on downstream.JR March 16th – 7:15pm – 7:45pm – One beaver was spotted at the primary dam and two were seen at the secondary dam. Looks like there is a lot of work being done on the third dam as it looks well built. A large brown rat was seen climbing onto the primary dam to get an apple, which he ate while sitting on the dam. JO

March 16th – 4:50am – Our early beaver viewer was down at the dams sites again this morning. It was reported that an adult beaver came swimming up from below the secondary dam bringing up a willow branch. There was a kit waiting above the dam. The beaver took the willow branch into the bank hole and when the viewer left, some of the branch was still sticking out of the hole. The kit spent some time swimming around the secondary dam. A great blue heron was seen below the primary dam.JR

March 15th – 4:45am – It was reported that a beaver was heard splashing about at the primary dam. A beaver was also seen with a snack before disappearing into the bank above the primary dam. Down at the secondary dam, a kit was seen on the bank getting something to eat. It disappeared into the bank. The viewers dog almost got sprayed by a skunk down near the annex.JR

March 14th – 7:15pm – 7:45pm – Day Light Savings time is back and now we have some good evening viewing down at the dam sites. It was reported that a very very large beaver was seen down near the secondary dam along with another big beaver. Two of last years kits also made an appearance. Good to see four beavers at one time. JO

March 14th – 4:45am – Two kits were seen this morning by an early viewer. One of the kits was working very hard on the secondary dam, while the other kit was seen swimming up towards the primary dam. JR
