Because the beaver isn't just an animal; it's an ecosystem!

July 2015

July 25th – 7:00pm – Two beavers were seen by the primary dam plus 40 kids were also at the dam sites to have their pictures taken by wildlife photographer Suzi Eszterhas. It was quite an evening and thanks to all the parents that brought their children down to the sites.HP, JR

July 20th – 6:00pm – Two beavers were seen down by the secondary dam. Jr. and a two year old were out and about. HP, JR

July 18th – Junior at old dam, mom and two year old at new dam. HP, JR

July 15th – 6:00pm – Very slow beaver sighting night. No sightings at the primary dam until later in the evening. Two beavers were seen down at the secondary dam. A nice couple from Germany were down at the secondary dam and were lucky to see the two beavers. They were on their last week of a three week vacation in the US and the Martinez beavers were one of their destinations. They had read about them on the internet in Germany. One of the beavers swam up to the primary dam and everyone went up that way and were actually able to see mom beaver and Jr. up close. The couple went away very happy as they had only seen beavers in a zoo. CR, LB

July 12th – 6:00pm – Two beavers and Jr. were seen down near the new dam. Mom was seen down near old dam. JO

July 11th – 6:00pm – Two beavers were seen down near the new dam. One was Jr. and the other was one of the 2 year old beavers. Fourth kit not seen, we assume it is also dead. We can’t believe this happened so fast. JO

July 10th – 6:00pm – Four adult beavers were seen mainly at the old dam but several were sighted near the new dam. The fourth kit was not seen.CR, JO, LB

July 9th – Jean brought kit body for necropsy at UCD. Another kit found dead around noon. CDFW will pay for necropsy and advise since this sudden mortality is alarming. JO, JR, HP

July 8th – Received call that kit was sick at dam. Someone picked it up and brought to Lindsay. They reported it was bloated and very ill. Euthanized that night. CR, HP, JR, LB

July 7th – Kit found dead on bank near the old dam. Very high tide might have pushed him up because he had been dead a while. Worried about the others. JR, CR, LB

July 6th Two kits, one looking ungroomed and maybe sick. SE

July 5th – Three kits seen, CR, LB

July 4th – Three kits seen, with mom, dad, Jr and the year olds, lots of noise with the fourth of July. HP, JR.

July 3 – Very high tide floated the massive burl off the filter, it is drifting around free at the moment. Wonder where it will settle? JR

July 2nd – two kits, mom, two year olds and junior. SE, CR

July 1st – 6:00pm – The four new kits were all seen together eating willow near the old primary dam. Also seen there were four adult beavers ,of which, one was mom and Jr. HP, JR
