Because the beaver isn't just an animal; it's an ecosystem!

May 2011

May 28th – 8:30PM – One of the beavers was seen near the primary dam, which is starting to look pretty good. Let’s hope that they are returning to their old routine of coming out in the early evening, near the dam, so that more people can see them. Since the heavy rains that destroyed everything, most of the sightings have been in the early morning.HP

May 21st – AM – A beaver was filmed working downstream of the primary dam. Wonder what he is working on. MS,JR

May 19th – AM- Three beavers were seen this morning in the bank near the footbridge by our early raisers. This is the first time three beavers have been seen together since the big storm that washed out their dams and lodge. Now hopefully we will see one of the adults. HP,CR

May 14th – AM – One beaver was seen working on the secondary dam and the dam is starting to look like a dam again. After spending a lot of time working, he swam up towards the primary dam. HP

May 10th – 6:15AM – Two kits(yearlings) were seen this morning by one of our early risers. One kit was working on the secondary dam but it will be a slow process as the branch that he put on the dam was taken by a muskrat. Need to get those muskrats to join in and help put branches on the dams.HP

May 9th – 6:30AM – This morning there was one yearling seen just floating around enjoying the high tide. Also another beaver was sighted that might have been one of the adults. The yearlings are getting so big that it is hard to tell the difference unless the beaver is quite close.HP

May 5th – 6:15AM – Two beavers were seen early this morning out working on the dams. One beaver was videoed carrying a large branch to the dam and placing it under water on the secondary dam. The other beaver was seen at the primary dam placing mud on the dam. Hopefully soon the dams will start holding back more water so the beavers will have a deeper creek to swim in. Best time for beaver sightings now are in the early morning. HP,CR

May 4th – AM – A very busy beaver was working on the secondary dam. He was sighted swimming with a stick and placing it in the dam. He went to the bank hole and removed some other sticks and placed them on the dam. At last work has begun.HP

May 3 – 6:45 AM – Adult beaver seen working on secondary dam (Not Dad – GQ?) and one of last years kits seen mudding around the area. CR
