Because the beaver isn't just an animal; it's an ecosystem!

March 2012

March 32st – 5:30AM – Reed, our smallest beaver, was seen working on the secondary dam. This dam looks pretty good and has been holding up quite well with the rains. Lots of work to be done on the primary dam.JR

March 21st – 8:00PM – Several members of Worth A Dam anxiously waited for a beaver sighting, as many had not been down at the dams to check them out for some time. There was excitement when some thing was swimming up towards the secondary dam. Finally, a small muskrat came up and over the dam. Our patience finally paid off when a single beaver came swimming down from upstream and went to work mudding on the secondary dam. There were many trips down under water to get some mud and then swimming to place the mud in the right spot. After some time he swam up and over the dam and on downstream.HP, JR, CR, MH, LB

March 18th – evening – Three beavers were seen near the dams. One beaver was below the secondary dam and he was headed out. Another beaver came from above the primary dam and swam towards a hole in the bank where another beaver was. Then the smaller beaver, that is called Reed, came out and swam slowly towards the secondary dam. Another beaver joined him and they went down to the secondary and checked out the damage. One decided to swim back upstream and one stayed at the dam.HP

March 10, 6:00 am – 2 beavers nuzzling and then wresting in lower pond between footbridge and Marina Vista bridge. Hooded Merganser pair flew in and landed in the area, and the mallards moved to let them go wherever they wanted.

March 4th – 6:30AM – It was a very beautiful morning to be out beaver watching. Two beavers were seen at the primary dam and 2 beavers were also seen above the footbridge. This confirms that we have at least 4 beavers in the creek. One of the beavers took off swimming upstream. Two beautiful hooded mergansers were sighted swimming up in the annex area and also seen were 8 mallards plus many many fish. Also adding to this lovely morning, a plum tree was in full bloom.HP

March 2nd – very early in AM – One beaver was seen logging above the secondary dam. The hole in that dam has been plugged with reeds but water was still flowing over. A very pretty duck was seen swimming in the annex area and although it was dark it stood out.JR
